Welcome to Hanover County Public Schools! This page outlines the steps to enroll your new student(s) for the 2023–2024 school year.

Hanover County Public Schools has 26 schools: 15 elementary, four middle, four high, an alternative school, a trades and technology center, and an online school (grades 6–12). By clicking on this link, parents/guardians will find their child's zoned school.

Kindergarten and New Student Enrollment for 2023–2024

Children must be five years old on or before September 30, 2023, to be eligible for kindergarten for the 2023–2024 school year. 

Parents or legal guardians of new students may enroll their eligible children using one of the following options:

Online enrollment: Enroll online by completing the Online Enrollment Form found below. Upon completion of the online form and after a welcome email is received from the school, please contact your school registrar to set up an appointment to complete the enrollment process.

Printed enrollment forms: Print and complete the enrollment packet found below and contact your school registrar to set up an appointment to complete the enrollment process.

After submitting the online form and after a welcome email is received from the school, contact your school registrar to set up a face-to-face appointment in order to complete the enrollment process. Please bring the other items listed below under Required Documentation to your appointment. The Affirmation Regarding Expulsion Form is included in the Online Enrollment Form; however, a school entrance health form and an immunization record are required before the start of school. In order to enroll a student in Hanover County Public Schools, it shall be the responsibility of the parent or guardian to furnish satisfactory proof of actual and bona fide residency in Hanover County. Enrollment is not final until the in-person appointment occurs and the registrar receives all of the required documentation. 

PowerSchool Enrollment Account (Required for Online Enrollment)

In order to complete the online student enrollment process, you will need to create an account with our enrollment partner (PowerSchool Enrollment) using your email address. Your PowerSchool Enrollment account will allow you to:

  • Start and stop forms as many times as necessary to complete them.
  • Reuse common data entered on previous enrollments for new student enrollments.
  • Retrieve a copy of submitted enrollments.
  • Receive email notification that your enrollment form was successfully submitted.

Registration Help & Support

The type of assistance you need with student enrollment will determine where to go for help:

General questions regarding the enrollment process, required documentation, or eligibility to attend an HCPS school should be directed to the registrar of the school that your student will attend.

  • For technical assistance with the online registration tool and issues with your PowerSchool Enrollment account (including password resets), parents should contact PowerSchool Enrollment Family Support:
    • Call Toll-Free (866) 752-6850 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST (English only);* or
    • Visit the PowerSchool Registration Help Center (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) (English & Spanish); or
    • Submit a support request for a response the next business day (English & Spanish).

*PowerSchool Enrollment phone support is currently available only in English. Extended hours until 8 p.m. are available in July and August. 

Printed Enrollment Forms:

If you prefer not to use the online enrollment option, you may print, complete, and return an enrollment packet consisting of the following three forms in English and Spanish:

If you are unable to print these forms, please contact the school registrar to arrange a time to pick up an enrollment packet in order to complete the documents prior to your face-to-face scheduled appointment.

Bring the completed enrollment packet as well as the other items listed below under Required Documentation to your face-to-face appointment. In order to enroll a student in Hanover County Public Schools, it shall be the responsibility of the parent or guardian to furnish satisfactory proof of actual and bona fide residency in Hanover County. Enrollment is not final until the in-person appointment occurs and the registrar receives all of the required documentation.

For special circumstances or specific questions not answered in the information above, please reach out to your school’s registrar.

Required Documentation

The parent or legal guardian will need the following documents in order to register an eligible child:

  • Child's birth certificate (official or certified copy)
  • Photo ID of parent or legal guardian
  • Student Enrollment Form
  • Affirmation Regarding Expulsion Form
  • School Entrance Health Form
  • Proof of residency in Hanover which includes providing one of the following documents:
    • Deed
    • Current mortgage statement from the lender
    • Current signed lease (person to person lease must be notarized)
    • Closed sales contract for the purchase of the residence (signed by seller and
      purchaser)
  • and two of the following that have been mailed to the home and which must reflect the resident's name, physical mailing address, and service address:*
    • Current bill for land-line telephone, cable, internet, satellite, water, gas/oil, or electricity service
    • Voter registration card
    • Current automobile registration card
    • W-2 tax document for the most recent tax year
    • A combined bill and receipt for personal property taxes paid within the current year
    • Bank statements, medical bills, or official correspondence from a governmental agency dated within the last two months

*The school division will accept only original documents that have been mailed to the home for proof of residence. No copies or online printouts of such documents will be accepted. Copies of all documents presented for proof of residence will be retained in the student’s cumulative file as part of the student’s enrollment documentation.

Transportation

In order to receive bus service for the 2023–2024 school year, a transportation request form must be submitted by the following: students who do not currently have a bus assignment in PowerSchool, students who did not ride the bus for the 2022–2023 school year, and students new to the school division who are requesting school bus services. To assist with planning the most efficient routes possible while not restricting service, families are asked to complete the following form:
