Hanover County Public Schools is proud to offer a robust offering of classes and programs for career and technical education (CTE). We currently have 101 different offerings including classes at The Hanover Center for Trades and Technology and The Specialty Center at Hanover High School. We also organize the Hanover Regional Governor's School for Career and Technical Advancement, a two-week summer residential program for gifted CTE students. 

CTE teaches a variety of personal qualities, abilities, and interpersonal skills:

Exciting and diverse careers are open to qualified applicants. The possibilities are limitless. Your school counselor and career counselor will help you to learn more about these opportunities and your own interests using career inventories and computerized programs such as Virginia Wizard and Virginia View.

Nursing studentsTechnical education student organizations are an integral part of the total instructional program. Student organizations provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, learn to engage in individual and group enterprises, and to compete honorably with colleagues at the local, regional, state, and national levels.

The University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service in collaboration with the VDOE has researched and compiled this data for the 2024-25 school year. The information is based on occupational employment statistics and educational attainment data produced by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as well as longitudinal wage data produced by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

Industry Credentials

All HCPS students who complete a two year high school CTE program sequence will be offered the opportunity to take an industry credential or certification exam. The list of credential and certification exams currently offered for HCPS programs are available at the following link.
