An End-of-Year Message from the Superintendent

HCPS LogoDear Families,

Tomorrow morning, our students will enter our schools for the final day of the 2021-22 school year. It is hard to believe that this school year – yet another that we will talk about for decades to come – has come to an end. Before it does, I would like to take a moment to extend my deepest and sincerest appreciation to each and every one of you who helped us to reach this point.

On the eve of the first day of school, I shared with you the following: “Of all the lessons we learned over the past year and a half, the one that has been most profound is our ability to accomplish anything together as a community when we work together. Collectively, we showed the strength and resiliency of Hanover County. As we welcome another school year, I invite you to partner with us in the important work of supporting our learners, educators, and staff.”

I am proud to say that on this, the eve of the last day of school, that lesson still rings true. Once again, in a time of continued uncertainty, you trusted us with educating and caring for your children. You exhibited the patience, grace, and kindness we needed to flourish this school year. We worked together to overcome the challenges that came our way. Simply put, we are stronger because of it and because of our community’s longstanding support of our school division. Your support is not taken for granted.

None of this, of course, would be possible without the talented and dedicated faculty and staff we are privileged enough to have serving our students and you, our families. Again this year, they’ve risen to the moment. I am incredibly grateful for their passion and devotion, and hope you will join me in thanking them for the profound difference they make each and every day.

Tomorrow morning, we will celebrate the end of another school year. Before we do, from the bottom of my heart: Thank you to each and every one of you who has gotten us to this point. Have a great summer!

With gratitude,

Dr. Michael Gill
