Dear Families,

The Learn-from-Home online resources are now available. Please visit http://bit.ly/HCPSLearnfromHome to begin accessing and using these educational materials to support student learning during the extended closure. Teachers have also communicated directly with students and families to support these efforts further.

As a reminder, we will distribute paper packets today and tomorrow to families that do not have access to high-speed internet service. Due to limited resources, we ask that only families that cannot access resources through the internet should plan to pick-up paper packets. Packet distribution will take place at your student’s school as follows:

  • Wednesday, March 18: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 19: 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Please note that school offices will not be open for other public business, only instructional packet pick-up.

Questions?

We recognize that you may have a variety of questions about student learning goals and expectations during the closure. Above all, we understand that families have different challenges at home during this time. We want all families to put the safety, health, and well-being of their families first.

The learning activities created by our teachers and specialists are designed to reinforce skills and engage students in learning. They are not a substitute for classroom instruction. As a result, we do not expect students to master this material on their own, and these activities will not be graded.

Aside from these efforts, reading is one of the most important learning activities in which students can engage, and we ask parents to help reinforce this. We also recommend that you help your students (of all ages) to find ways to make art with items around the house, create and listen to music, engage in physical activity, and explore the outdoors within the CDC recommendations for social distancing.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our efforts to help keep our students connected to our programs, healthy, and safe. We will continue to provide updates as needed.
Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Gill
Superintendent of Schools
