Online School LogoSeptember 21 Update:

If your student enrolled in the Online School after September 15, you will be notified soon with a pickup date for the Chromebook.

Please note that if you did not have a valid home address in PowerSchool or if your address has changed recently, you must contact the registrar in your child’s home school to update your address and validate residency. Chromebooks can be released to your student once this process is complete.

September 2 Update:

Dear Online School Families,

Thank you for your continued patience as we open a new school for these unprecedented times. In Dr. Gresham’s weekly email, she discussed technology and how to make sure you’re connected to the Online School for the start of the school year.

We have two additional updates today.

Chromebook Distribution

We are continuing to ship Chromebooks directly to Online School families, a process that started on August 27. The average delivery time is 1-2 business days. As a reminder, a signature is required for delivery.

Many of you have reached out to our Help Desk regarding Chromebook distribution – a volume of thousands of emails that may result in a delayed response from our Help Desk. We have extended the hours of the Help Desk to 7:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. After September 18, the desk will operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you are reaching out to our Help Desk regarding the shipment status of your student’s device, unfortunately we do not have access to individual tracking numbers for each Chromebook. A vendor is managing the shipment via UPS.

The Help Desk staff will prioritize responding to requests for students who are having trouble with the device itself or login.

Updated September 21: If your student enrolled in the Online School after September 15, you will be notified soon with a pickup date for the Chromebook.

Hotspot Devices

We received the hotspot devices on September 1. We are now awaiting activation of our account and devices by our vendor. We will send a separate communication to the specific families regarding hotspot distribution once it is scheduled.

In the meantime, this document has information on wireless internet access for families and staff.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

August 28 Update:

Chromebooks started to ship on August 27 and will ship through September 2. The estimated delivery time is 1-2 business days after shipment. HCPS is not provided individual tracking numbers as a vendor is managing the shipping with UPS.

UPS recommends enrolling in UPS My Choice as the best method for tracking the UPS delivery to your home. With thousands of devices being shipped throughout the county, this will give families the best indicator of when to anticipate arrival at their designated home address.

More information on UPS My Choice and frequently asked questions can be found here.

August 25 Message:

Dear Online School Families,

As we continue preparing for the start of the school year, we are excited to share that we have received our first shipment of Chromebooks.

We are providing all Hanover Online School students with a Chromebook, which, as of August 23, your student is enrolled in for the fall semester. The first day of school for the Online School remains September 8.

Device delivery

To help ensure the delivery of the Chromebooks in a safe, secure, and expedient manner, we will begin shipping the devices through UPS as early as Thursday, August 27 and continue through September 2. An adult signature is required.

UPS will make three attempts to deliver the device to your mailing address specified in PowerSchool. If your address has changed, please contact your zoned school to update it. If the first attempt at delivery is unsuccessful, UPS will leave a tag on your door.

After the first failed delivery attempt, you may choose to pick up the device at a UPS depot site if it is more convenient for you. You can determine the location by contacting UPS. UPS will attempt two more deliveries to your home address if you opt not to pick it up at a UPS site.

After three unsuccessful attempts, UPS will return the device to HCPS.

If you do not receive a device by September 8, please contact the HCPS Help Desk at [email protected]. Please provide your name, student(s) ID, home address, grade level, and telephone number.

Preparing for learning

Your student’s Google ID will be included on the address label and will appear as an email address. It cannot be used to access the HCPS system without the proper login credentials. Login credentials and help instructions to change the default password are included inside the Chromebook box. Please use this ID together with the instructions included in the box to get your student online and ready for virtual learning.

Receiving the Chromebook and logging on to our Online School network means you have accepted the Hanover County Public Schools Acceptable Use Agreement. You can view the agreement details here.

Please note that you must return the device to HCPS at the end of the school year. If you move outside of Hanover County, you must return the device to HCPS. Please keep the original Chromebook packaging if a return is necessary.

We are awaiting shipment from our vendor, Verizon, for hotspot devices that we will distribute to Online School families to the greatest extent possible.

As a reminder, please continue to check our Return to Learn FAQs, which we are updating as new information becomes available.

Again, if you have any questions about your student’s device or related inquiries, you may contact the HCPS Help Desk at [email protected]. Please provide your name, student(s) ID, home address, grade level, and telephone number.

We hope this information is helpful to you. We sincerely value your partnership with us as we work to prepare our students for the upcoming school year, and we appreciate your patience and support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dana Gresham
Principal, Hanover Online School
