The mission of Hanover County Public Schools’ World Languages Department is to empower students to become global citizens by equipping them with the language skills, intercultural competence, and experiences to engage with our local, national, and global community in an ever-changing and interconnected world.
Instructional Approach
HCPS World Language programming centers on the belief that students acquire language best through comprehensible and engaging exposure to the target language. This belief pushes students to go beyond learning about language structures, and strives to bring them greater proficiency in the language as well as greater intercultural competency. To achieve this, students will interact with level-appropriate spoken and written language, participate in interpersonal and presentational speaking and writing, and explore world regions where languages other than English are spoken.
