Our mission is to engage students in the science and engineering investigative processes to create scientifically-literate graduates and citizens.
Instructional Approach
Hanover offers a comprehensive science program based on Virginia Standards of Learning from Kindergarten through graduation. In addition, we offer a robust set of advanced classes and varied electives at the secondary level to explore different areas of science.
We advocate a hands-on investigative approach to learning science, using laboratory and field-based opportunities to enrich the experience. The 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, along with Embedded Evaluations) is a time-tested, research-based method for instruction that provokes student inquiry, engagement, and the scientific thought process.

Approved Instructional Resources
We use a variety of instructional materials from a number of publishers to maximize the best available resources for the students of Hanover County. FOSS Kits are used for K-5, Discovery Education is used for 6-8, and multiple sources are used to best fit the variety of courses available in the high school sciences.
