The Virginia School Counseling Association (VSCA) has selected Karla Allen, coordinator of counseling services, for their annual leadership award.

The award recognizes one individual in the state each year who works in a supervisory role and supports the school counseling profession with leadership and advocacy for the counselors in their school or division. The recipient must demonstrate that their leadership and service has made a positive impact on improving the school counseling profession and the services offered by those they supervise.

Allen said, “I am honored beyond belief for this award. If not for the hard work and commitment of our school counselors and our division leaders, I would not be able to do the work that I do. I am happy to be chosen so I can continue to represent and advocate on behalf of Hanover County Public Schools.”

Dr. Michael Gill, superintendent of schools, said, “I congratulate Mrs. Allen on this well-deserved accomplishment. Her leadership, passion, and commitment is evident across the entire school division. I am grateful for the meaningful work that she and our entire school counseling staff do to serve the unique and complex needs of our students.”

The VSCA will recognize Allen at an awards ceremony in October during their annual conference in Hampton, Virginia.
