Comprehensive Plan 2023-29

Comprehensive Plan 2023-29

The Hanover County Public Schools Comprehensive Plan guides the work of the division for the next six years. Previously named the Long Range Plan, the division’s new Comprehensive Plan provides the school division with a road map for the future, with emphasis on the mission and vision of the School Board. This five-year plan guides the work of the division’s dedicated staff, helps prioritize the allocation of resources, and details measurable goals and objectives that are designed to lead to student success. Ultimately, it details what the division does and why it does it.

We are a student-centered school community committed to excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership.

Empowering confident, productive, life-long learners.

  • Students thrive in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.
  • Students achieve their goals when offered multiple learning pathways.
  • Resource allocation matches the complex needs of students, employees, and schools.
  • Relevant and engaging teaching develops critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Family engagement and community partnerships enhance quality education.
  • Robust and relevant professional learning supports success.

Code of Virginia requires that each school division in the Commonwealth has in place a comprehensive plan focused on improving classroom instruction and student achievement. The plan must be developed with staff and community involvement and be consistent with all other division-wide plans required by state and federal laws and regulations.

An Executive Committee comprised of division leaders and a Steering Committee comprised of representatives from schools and departments began the work to draft a new plan in 2022. These committees reviewed data, discussed and developed ideas for the plan, and wrote draft goals and objectives.

Another vital element of the comprehensive planning process was gathering input from stakeholders, including staff, students, families, and community members. The division’s annual survey included questions specifically related to the comprehensive plan, and in November 2022, the division held four community open houses where anyone in the community could provide their input on the goals of the division.
