Hanover Preschool Health Services

A comprehensive health care program is required for each child in the Hanover Preschool Program. This includes medical, dental, mental health, and nutritional services. Emphasis is placed on the importance of early detection of health problems in families. A county Health and Human Services Advisory Committee, consisting of professionals, parents, and staff, meets quarterly to plan and ensure that the health needs of children and their families are  met. Services for children with disabilities are provided as outlined in the child's IEP.

Physical and Dental Health

Each child is required to have a complete and current physical examination within the current year, as well as a dental exam that is current within the last six months. Immunizations are tracked and monitored. Families are expected to follow up on all medical/dental treatments and concerns. The Hanover Preschool Family Service Specialist will assist families with these concerns when necessary and link them with the resources needed.

Nutrition

The Hanover Preschool Head Start children receive two nutritious meals and a snack daily. A nutritionist from Hanover County Public Schools is available and certifies the snack menu prior to each school year. We present workshops to parents and staff members to identify and provide for the nutritional needs of the children.

Mental Health

Hanover Preschool Collaborates with Hanover County Public Schools mental health professionals and community based professionals for psychological services for children and their families when needed. Training is available for parents and staff to make them aware of any special problems that might exist with children.
