Hanover County Public Schools provides a substance use prevention model that extends throughout our students' educational careers, starting in fourth grade. Programming includes the SODA program, D.A.R.E., Project CHOICE, 7th UP, and Project Thrive. In Hanover, we focus our prevention education on providing students with factual information about risk factors and health impacts as well as protective factors and refusal skills.

Our intervention counselors are dedicated to providing substance use prevention and intervention for all four middle and high schools. This includes prevention education, risk assessment, individual and group counseling, referral information, training and professional development for staff, parent workshops, and school-wide programming and activities.
