Generative AI has the potential to dramatically improve how people learn, acquire new skills, and get work done. How can we prepare students, teachers, and staff to leverage AI to support their learning and productivity?

Generative AI is a prominent form of AI that has garnered significant attention. Generative AI differs from Traditional AI as it uses vast amounts of information from the internet to create new and original content.  Generative AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, can support teachers in lesson planning, prompting ideas for a presentation, or acting as a thought partner for writing. Additionally, other tools draw upon vast amounts of images on the internet to create an original piece of art or video creation.

These emerging technologies possess the potential to significantly streamline task completion, freeing up valuable time for people to concentrate on other important matters. As we adopt and integrate these technologies, it will naturally shift us towards tasks that require more problem-solving and critical thinking.

First, however, it is important to understand how these technologies use our data. Are they using it safely, legally, and ethically? By developing a comprehensive understanding of their data usage, we can confidently navigate these new technologies and maximize their benefits while upholding responsible practices and safeguarding privacy and ethical considerations.

Human judgment should not and cannot be replaced by the use of AI. While it can help us gather and understand information faster, it can't take the place of teachers. Teachers offer wisdom, guidance, support, understanding, and care in ways that machines simply can't.
