Mr. Bob May, School Board Chairman, shared the following message at the School Board's March 11 business meeting:
On behalf of the School Board, I would like to provide an update with regard to our ongoing search for the next Superintendent of Schools as part of our commitment to a transparent search process.
Applications for the position closed in February. A total of 38 applicants submitted credentials for consideration and of those 38, a total of 35 completed all of the documents required for consideration by the application deadline. From Maine to Arizona and, of course, Virginia, these 35 individuals hail from 18 states.
Furthermore, 12 applicants have previous experience as a superintendent, seven have assistant or deputy superintendent experience, nine have executive director, director, or assistant director experience, three have consulting experience, one is a full-time professor, and two have other experiences. A total of 28 of the 35 applicants have either a Ph.D. or an Ed.D.
The School Board reviewed all 35 completed applications and considered seven who were recommended by HYA, our third-party vendor, as most closely resembling the profile that was shared with our community last month following extensive community engagement. At a recent closed session, the School Board narrowed the list to four candidates.
We will soon begin the interview process to further narrow our pool of candidates as we work to identify the next leader of our school division that will advance our Tradition of Excellence. We remain on schedule to vote on the next Superintendent of Schools at our April 8 meeting. Thank you.
