Dear Families,
We hope you have had a great first week of school. We are writing today to inform you of new state-mandated assessments that will be administered this fall to
students in grades three through eight.
Earlier this year, the General Assembly
passed legislation that requires students in grades three through eight be assessed for growth in math and reading. This year’s fall growth assessments will be based on what students learned in their previous grade level and not content from the first month of this school year.
While they are not considered SOL assessments, these exams will be similar in format (and shorter in length) to the spring SOL tests and are meant to provide a foundation for us to help guide planning and instruction. Please note that
students will not receive a passing or failing grade on these assessments and the Virginia Department of Education is working to develop a portal in which parents can access their student’s report. We will share more information on the portal as it becomes available.
Our students will participate in the 2021 Fall Growth Assessments as follows:
- September 20-24: Grades 6-8
- September 27-October 1: Grades 3-5
- September 22 & September 29: Online School students in grades 3-8
Our schools will send out more detailed assessment information closer to the start of administration at each school.
Online School families, please note that these exams must be completed in-person and students will register via a forthcoming Google Form.
If you have any questions about these new assessments, please contact Nikki Currie, Coordinator of Division Assessment and Analysis, at
[email protected].
Thank you.
