Jessica Robertson, the library office assistant at Atlee High School (AHS) and Chickahominy Middle School (CMS), has been selected as the 2025-26 Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS) Support Employee of the Year.
Dr. Lisa Pennycuff, Superintendent of Schools, made the surprise announcement on Friday, April 24 at a special staff meeting at Chickahominy. Mrs. Robertson has worked for HCPS for three years.
“Receiving this recognition is truly an honor. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such dedicated and inspiring colleagues who help make our schools such a special place to learn and grow,” she said. “This award reflects the strong sense of support, collaboration, and shared commitment within our team.”
In her role, Mrs. Robertson supports daily library operations by assisting students and teachers with book check-in/check-out, printing and laminating services, processing and organizing incoming materials, and maintaining student library accounts. She also contributes to an engaging and welcoming environment by updating book displays based on themes, holidays, and new arrivals.
She said her favorite part of her job is building relationships with students.
“I value creating a welcoming space where they feel comfortable, supported, and inspired to learn,” Mrs. Robertson said. “Watching their confidence and enthusiasm grow throughout the school year and across their middle and high school journeys is what makes my role especially meaningful.”
Both AHS Principal Dr. John Wheeler and CMS Principal Mr. Mark Beckett said Mrs. Robertson is a dedicated and compassionate team member who consistently goes above and beyond to support students, staff, and the broader school community.
“Mrs. Robertson truly exemplifies what it means to serve not one, but two school communities with heart and purpose. Her kindness is evident in every interaction, as she consistently creates a welcoming and supportive environment for both students and staff,” said Dr. Wheeler. “She takes initiative in countless ways, whether it is helping students find resources, supporting teachers with their needs, or anticipating challenges before they arise. What sets her apart most, however, is her unwavering willingness to go above and beyond, never hesitating to lend a hand or take extra steps to ensure others succeed.”
Said Mr. Beckett: “She consistently goes above and beyond to support student learning, assist staff, and foster a positive, engaging space in the library and around the school. Her reliability, initiative, and care for our school community make this honor truly well deserved.”
Mrs. Robertson said she is thankful to be “part of a community that prioritizes students and supports one another.”
“I am especially grateful that my own children attend Hanover County Public Schools,” she said. “I feel fortunate to both live and work in this community and I look forward to continuing to serve our schools and community by making a positive impact in any way I can.”
