Full Message/Details
Dear Families,
We hope you are having a great week. We are writing to inform you of an area of renewed emphasis across all of our schools for the upcoming school year and ask for your partnership in supporting this important work.
Throughout the 2025-26 school year, a specific word will permeate throughout our schools: kindness. In our classrooms and hallways, on our playgrounds and athletic fields, and throughout our community, we believe kindness has the power to build stronger and healthier connections across our entire school community, improve our learning environments, and create spaces where every student can thrive. In Hanover, we are kind everywhere.
This year, we are launching a renewed focus on promoting kindness in every aspect of our schools.
Throughout the year, our schools will offer, among other things, kindness-themed activities, lessons, and celebrations as we want our students to feel confident, supported, and empowered – and we believe that starts with relationships rooted in kindness.
As part of this emphasis,
we are also deepening our commitment to bullying prevention. Simply put, every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued. Bullying is not tolerated in Hanover County Public Schools and students who bully will be held accountable in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.
As a reminder,
we are pleased to have the “Stand Up, Speak Out - Stop Bullying Now” anonymous digital reporting tool on all of our school websites. This tool allows students and families to report bullying from anywhere, on any device, at any time to help further support the safety and mental health needs of students. You can access the tool by visiting the homepage of your school’s website and clicking on the “Stand Up, Speak Out - Stop Bullying Now” button near the bottom of the page or by using the “Students” and “Parents” tabs on the main menu. School administrators and counselors directly receive the information and work to resolve the concern as quickly as possible during normal business hours.
As parents and guardians,
you are an important partner in our efforts in this regard.
We ask that you assist us by discussing this topic with your student. Please have conversations with your student prior to the start of school and throughout the school year, not only about the importance of kindness and respect, but that bullying another student will result in serious consequences.
We appreciate your partnership in emphasizing this message, including the potential consequences, with your student and for your broader support of our commitment to high-quality learning environments.
Together, we can create a culture where kindness isn’t just encouraged, but expected.
Thank you.
