Inclement Weather Update: Jan. 30, 2026

Dear Families,
We hope you are warm and well. We are writing to share with you an update regarding the highly unusual and extreme inclement weather that we continue to experience, as well as our plans for next week should further adjustments be necessary.
Ongoing Inclement Weather Challenges
As
we shared with you on Wednesday, unfortunately, temperatures well below freezing continue to prevent any useful melting of last weekend’s snow and ice, making secondary and neighborhood roadways throughout our county unsafe. In addition to treacherous roadways, the roads, parking lots, bus loops, and sidewalks at our schools remain unsafe. While we are working closely with our contractors to clear these areas when practical, the extremely cold temperatures and limited melting remain a significant challenge to these ongoing efforts.
Additionally, we are also closely monitoring forecasts of additional inclement weather this weekend. A Winter Storm Watch from the National Weather Service takes effect early Saturday morning for the eastern part of Hanover County and goes through 1 p.m. Sunday. This includes sustained freezing temperatures and the possibility of additional snow accumulation.
As always, we will communicate any further closings or delays that may be necessary as quickly as possible.
Please be assured that
our goal remains to get our students and staff back to school as safely and quickly as possible, recognizing the impact of extended closures on our community. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this difficult and unusual situation.
Inclement Weather Instructional Plan
Similar to last week, we are proactively sharing our inclement weather instructional plan for next week should additional school closures be necessary. Again, while no final decisions have been made, please note our plans below to assist your family with planning ahead in the event of school closures again next week:
-
Monday, February 2 would be a Remote Learning Day. Middle and high school students would access
B Day lessons to work on independently in Schoology. Elementary school students would complete activities that do not require a computer and would be shared via ParentSquare by your student’s teacher.
-
Tuesday, February 3 would not require an adjustment to the school calendar. If needed, students could use this day to complete assignments from the Monday Remote Learning Day.
-
Wednesday, February 4 would be a Remote Learning Day. Middle and high school students would access
A Day lessons to work on independently in Schoology. Elementary school students would complete activities that do not require a computer and would be shared via ParentSquare by your student’s teacher.
-
Thursday, February 5 would not require an adjustment to the school calendar. If needed, students could use this day to complete assignments from the Wednesday Remote Learning Day.
-
Friday, February 6 would not be a Remote Learning Day. Rather, if a school closure is necessary on Friday, February 6, we would convert Tuesday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 27, which were previously designated as early release days during the final week of school, to full school days across the school division.

The most up-to-date chart showing the specific impact of inclement weather days and the plan for any future closures can be found
here.
Again,
we are sharing this information with you now as a proactive measure to allow your family time to prepare in advance should additional school closures be necessary. As
we shared with you last week, the use of Remote Learning Days allows us to avoid extended school days, which tax our students’ capacity for learning; the loss of Spring Break; extending the school year; or Saturday makeup sessions, which pose issues with transportation, family work and competing commitments, and staffing challenges.
Curbside Meal Distribution
Please know that similar to
our curbside meal distribution last week,
weather permitting, we are planning to distribute meals for students again next week. We will share more information soon regarding the specific details of distribution.

As always, we appreciate your support. Thank you.
