Inclement Weather Update: Jan. 27, 2026

Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are warm and well. Travel conditions in Hanover County remain hazardous, especially on secondary roads and in neighborhoods, as a result of this weekend’s inclement weather. Unfortunately, temperatures are forecasted to remain below freezing, preventing any useful melting on roadways.
As a result, HCPS will be CLOSED on Wednesday, January 28. Employees use Code 6, meaning at the earliest possible time, only designated personnel report to work. All other employees work remotely as able. Please note that
any designated employees who may be needed will be contacted directly by their supervisor.
As outlined in our inclement weather instructional plan that
we shared last week,
tomorrow’s school closure does not require an adjustment to the school calendar. If needed, students can use this day to complete assignments from the Tuesday Remote Learning Day. The most up-to-date chart showing the specific impact of inclement weather days and the plan for any future closures can be found
here.
Please note that
all after-school activities and events are canceled for Wednesday, January 28. Building access by school and community organizations will not be permitted.
We understand this continues to be disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff. We will communicate any further delays or closures that may be necessary as quickly as possible.
Should an additional school closure be necessary on Thursday, it would be another Remote Learning Day. Middle and high school students would access A Day lessons to work on independently in Schoology. Elementary school students would complete activities that do not require a computer and would be shared via ParentSquare by your student’s teacher, similar to Tuesday’s Remote Learning.
As always, we appreciate your support. Thank you.
Stay safe and warm,
Hanover County Public Schools
