Inclement Weather Update: Feb. 5, 2026

Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are warm and well. Our team has continued to carefully evaluate road conditions today, and we are pleased to report that thanks to several days of warmer temperatures, the vast majority of road conditions across the county have improved. We are grateful for our contractors who have worked diligently to prepare our schools for a reopening, as well as for the efforts of the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Town of Ashland.
As a result,
Hanover County Public Schools will open ON TIME on Friday, February 6.
Please be reminded that Friday will be a B Day for our middle and high schools.
While the vast majority of road conditions have improved, we recognize that there are still some pockets of the county where roads are not fully cleared. With this in mind, please note the following:
-
All of our bus drivers will be exercising additional caution tomorrow. We ask for your patience as these dedicated and professional drivers complete their routes. If your family is impacted by any route revisions, you will be contacted directly by our Transportation Department.
-
If your family chooses to keep your student home out of an abundance of caution due to any concerns you may have with some of the lingering road conditions, it will be marked as an excused absence. Please communicate this directly with your student’s school. Tardies will also be excused.
-
Please allow additional travel time for your student driver or if you are dropping your student off at school. Please also exhibit patience as we expect morning dropoff to take slightly longer than normal.
-
There may be adjustments in walkways to our buildings and parking areas. Please be cautious and follow defined or cleared areas only.
While we are pleased to transition back to in-person learning, please recognize that your patience, grace, and understanding are needed as we work to return to normal operations. Your caution, attentiveness, and patience will help ensure a safe and successful return for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we have prioritized the safety of our students, staff, and families. Please know that we understand that the extended school closures were disruptive. We are deeply grateful for your partnership as we worked through highly unusual conditions with safety as our top priority.
We greatly look forward to welcoming and reconnecting with our students tomorrow. Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and support.
