Full Message/Details
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are well. We are writing to provide you with an update on the boundary adjustment process.
Earlier today,
members of the Hanover County School Board held another work session to meet with MGT, the third-party vendor leading this process, to discuss the boundary adjustment process. This follows the Board’s work session on Friday at which the workgroup shared that it is recommending a phased implementation of the adjustments and discussed a fourth scenario. More information on Friday’s work session can be found
on our website.
Please note the following with regard to today’s work session:
Workgroup Recommendation
The School Board workgroup shared at today’s work session that
in addition to the previously announced recommendation of a phased implementation, the workgroup is prepared to recommend to the entire School Board at its March 11 work session and business meeting the green scenario with minor adjustments to some boundaries, specifically in the western corridor. The first phase would begin in the 2026-27 school year and the second and final phase in the 2027-28 school year.
As a reminder, the
green scenario, which can be found on
MGT’s advanced mapping tool, includes the following:
- The Atlee Manor, Craney Island Farms, and Craney Island Estates subdivisions would move from Cool Spring ES to Washington-Henry ES first. Should the delayed implementation recommendation be approved, this would begin in the 2026-27 school year.
- The Giles subdivision would move from Cool Spring ES to Washington-Henry ES beginning in the 2027-28 school year, aligning with the anticipated opening of the replacement Washington-Henry ES.
- An area west of Route 301 near Pearson’s Corner ES would move from Rural Point ES to Pearson’s Corner ES.
- An area east of Route 301 that is south of Totopotomoy Creek and near Studley Road would move from Washington-Henry ES to Rural Point ES.
An area south of Meadowbridge Road would move from Washington-Henry ES to Mechanicsville ES.
- Middle and high school boundaries would be adjusted to align with the updated elementary school boundaries to create clean feeder patterns.
As noted above,
this recommendation would include minor adjustments to the green scenario, specifically with regard to the Ashland ES and South Anna ES zones, which are noted below as follows:
- Students in the purple area circled in red and blue would move from Ashland ES to South Anna ES.
- This includes areas both west of Stagg Creek/South Anna River and north of Route 54/Patrick Henry Road (circled in red) as well as areas both west of Falling Creek and south of Route 54/Patrick Henry Road (circled in blue).
Please note that while the four previously published scenarios are available in
MGT’s advanced mapping tool and the recommended scenario will be based off of the green scenario,
the full recommended scenario is still being finalized and is not currently available in the mapping tool given the discussion took place just a short time ago. As we have throughout this process, we will share this and any other additional information as it becomes available from our vendor, MGT.
Community Input
The input of our families, staff, and community members continues to be deeply valued. Whether it has been attendance at one of MGT’s community meetings, participation in the MGT survey, or otherwise, we are thankful for your continued participation in this important process.
Accordingly,
as this process continues, please complete this form to ensure your input is collected and shared with School Board members. Please note that this is
not a poll/vote. Rather, it is an opportunity to provide your feedback, all of which will be shared with the School Board.
Next Steps
As we shared last week,
no final decisions have been made.
The School Board is slated to hold its regularly scheduled work session and business meeting on Tuesday, March 11, at which the workgroup will share its recommendation with the entire School Board. During the work session, Board members will work together to make a final recommendation that will be presented at the business meeting that night.
The vote would take place at a future meeting this spring. As always, we will share more information when it becomes available.
In the meantime, we continue to recommend that you visit
the boundary adjustment webpage for more information about this process.
