Full Message/Details
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are well. We are writing to provide you with an update on the boundary adjustment process.
At its meeting Tuesday night, the Hanover County School Board both provided an update on the ongoing boundary adjustment process and received the framework for a boundary adjustment implementation plan.
Update on Approval of Boundary Adjustments
Please note that
no action was taken Tuesday night on our school boundary adjustments. The School Board amended its agenda to remove the consideration of the boundary adjustment recommendation from Tuesday night’s meeting.
The Board instead plans to take action on the recommendation – the Green Scenario – at its May business meeting.
As you know, we have held robust community engagement opportunities throughout this process. From MGT’s three community meetings and online survey, which received more than 3,300 responses, to public comment at School Board meetings to our ongoing online input form, we have greatly appreciated your collective feedback, insight, and civility.
While we have offered extensive opportunities for your engagement, a procedural requirement in state code stipulates that we hold a designated public hearing for certain boundary adjustments. Please be advised that
we will hold a designated public hearing on the Green Scenario at the School Board’s May 13 business meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. at the Hanover County Government Administration Building.
Please note that, as has been the case since the beginning of this important process, you do not have to wait until next month to share your valued input. Our
online input form remains open and will continue to receive responses that are then shared with the School Board.
Draft Implementation Plan
Also at Tuesday night’s meeting,
the School Board received the draft implementation framework prepared by school division administration. While no vote was taken, the majority of School Board members expressed support for a plan that includes the following:
- A waiver process for 2026-27 12th grade, eighth grade, and fifth grade (2027-28 for Giles) students to remain at their current school.
- A waiver process for 2025-26 kindergarten, sixth grade, and ninth grade students to begin the coming school year at their newly zoned school.
- A waiver process to allow students who will move to Oak Knoll MS and Hanover HS in the 2026-27 school year to begin at their newly zoned school in the 2025-26 school year.
- All waivers would be dependent upon school and grade level capacity.
- All waivers would require parent transportation.
- All waivers would be processed as they are received.
Again,
no vote has been taken. The School Board anticipates voting on the refined plan at its May business meeting. The presentation from Tuesday night’s meeting, which further details the implementation plan, can be found
on BoardDocs.

As always, we will continue to keep you informed throughout this process, including the approval of the boundary adjustments and the implementation plan.
Thank you.
