Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We are excited to invite you to
the 49th Festival of the Arts and Sciences on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mechanicsville High School. Admission is free and snacks will be available for purchase.
More than 1,500 students will participate in this community event that highlights their accomplishments during the school year and
approximately 1,300 pieces of art will be on display. Individual schools will also showcase exhibits and digital projects will be on display in the library. Additionally, a musical instruments exhibit will allow students to try out different instruments.
The festival will feature
exhibits and live performances in the areas of music, theater, fine arts, and physical education. As you may know, last spring the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation named Hanover County Public Schools as a “Best Community for Music Education” for the 13th year in a row. We were one of only 23 school divisions in Virginia to achieve the coveted status.
As an extension of this year’s event,
we are excited to again host a free chess tournament. The chess tournament will take place from 12-4 p.m. at neighboring Bell Creek Middle School. Students will compete against others at their school level (elementary, middle, and high), and everyone will play four games. While on-site registration is available from 10-11:15 a.m., we strongly encourage pre-registration. More information and registration can be found
here.
Thank you. We look forward to seeing many of you on April 18.
