Full Message/Details

Dear Families,

Bus routes, schedules, and bus assignment information specific to your child are now available in the Parent Portal of PowerSchool. This includes bus numbers, pickup locations, and pickup times.

To view this information, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to PowerSchool (review this document for more information on logging in).
2. Visit your student’s PowerSchool page.
3. Click on transportation on your student’s PowerSchool page (bus icon on the bottom left-hand side).

a) My Student Has a Bus Assignment in PowerSchool: This means your student is registered for home-to-school pickup and school-to-home dropoff transportation service. Please note that preliminary time and bus assignments, which may differ from last school year, are subject to change. We encourage you to check back frequently and appreciate your patience as we work to make final adjustments to ensure our routes and stops are as efficient as possible.

b) My Student Does Not Have a Bus Assignment in PowerSchool: If your bus assignment is not visible in PowerSchool, please submit a transportation request by completing this form. As noted on the form, new requests received may not be approved and/or processed prior to the start of school.

While route information has been assigned for the vast majority of our students, assignments are still being made for some students, meaning information is not yet available in PowerSchool. Our Transportation Department continues to work diligently and as quickly as possible in assigning routes for our students. Again, we encourage you to check back frequently and appreciate your patience and understanding.

As a reminder, bus route numbers will be the primary identifier for a student's assigned school bus beginning this school year. While your student’s physical bus is subject to change, their bus route number will remain the same throughout the school year. We strongly recommend that you read last week’s message for more information.

If you have additional questions, please contact the Transportation Department at 804-365-6520.

Thank you.

Full Message/Details

Dear Families,

I hope you are having a great week. I’m writing today to share with you several updates regarding transportation for the upcoming school year.

Bus Route Information

We are in the process of finalizing bus routes for the 2025-26 school year. We expect routes, schedules, and bus assignment information specific to your child to be available in the Parent Portal of PowerSchool starting on Monday, August 11. This will include bus numbers, pickup locations, and pickup times.

Prior to August 11, you can confirm via PowerSchool that your student will be receiving transportation service. You can view this information by following these steps:

1. Log in to PowerSchool (review this document for more information on logging in).
Visit your student’s PowerSchool page.
2. Click on transportation on your student’s PowerSchool page (bus icon on the bottom left-hand side).

a) My Student Has a Bus Assignment in PowerSchool: This means they are registered for home-to-school pickup and school-to-home dropoff transportation service. Please note that your student’s bus assignment may change prior to August 11. The information in PowerSchool simply confirms whether or not your student has a bus assignment for home-to-school pickup and school-to-home dropoff.

b) My Student Does Not Have a Bus Assignment in PowerSchool: Please check again on August 11. After August 11, if your bus assignment is not visible in PowerSchool, please submit a transportation request by completing this form. As noted on the form, new requests received may not be approved and/or processed prior to the start of school.

Bus Route Numbers

Please note that we are changing how bus routes are labeled for the 2025-26 school year. Previously, the school bus number and the route name were the same and were represented by the school bus’s vehicle number (located on the front and rear bumper and on the driver’s side of the school bus).

Moving forward, bus route numbers will be the primary identifier for a student's assigned school bus. While your student’s physical bus is subject to change, their bus route number will remain the same throughout the school year. Bus route numbers will be identified by the number on the route changer placard on the right side of the school bus, near the entrance door.

Each of our schools will have numerical, sequenced routes, typically starting from the number 1. Special education bus routes will be two-digit routes starting from the number 60. Shuttle routes will start at 100.

Once bus route information is available next week, students should become familiar with their bus route number as this will be the most consistent way of identifying the bus that services their bus stop when bus changes occur.

Simply put, by using bus route numbers as the identifier, it will help to eliminate confusion for both students, families, and staff.

If you have additional questions, please contact the Transportation Department at 804-365-6520.

Our entire Transportation Team looks forward to seeing our students in just a few short weeks. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Adrian Frierson
Director of Transportation
