5:15 p.m. Update:
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Our team has continued to carefully evaluate road and weather conditions throughout the day, especially in eastern Hanover.
We are pleased to report that conditions have improved and our schools will open on time on Thursday, January 23.
Please note that Thursday will be an A day for our middle and high schools.
Thank you for your continued support, patience, and trust.
Have a great evening,
HCPS
8 a.m. Update:
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
Our team has continued to assess road conditions as a result of the inclement weather overnight, specifically in the far eastern portion of Hanover County. Conditions have not improved this morning and roads remain hazardous for our buses, student drivers, staff, and parents.
As a result, HCPS will be CLOSED on Wednesday, January 22. Employees use Code 3. All 12-month employees report to work on a regular schedule.
While we understand that the hazardous conditions are in the east end, we operate as one school division, and any delay or closure will impact all of our schools.
We understand this is disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff.
Please note that information regarding today’s closure’s impact on the school calendar will be shared in the coming days.
As always, we appreciate your support. Thank you.
Stay safe and warm,
Hanover County Public Schools
Original Message:
Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We hope you are warm and well. Our team has been carefully evaluating road and weather conditions overnight and into this morning. Inclement weather overnight led to snow accumulation in the far eastern portion of our county, specifically in the Old Church area, creating hazardous road conditions on roadways for our buses, student drivers, staff, and parents.
As a precaution and to allow our team sufficient time to fully assess travel conditions, our facilities, and our buses,
HCPS will be opening on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 22. Twelve-month employees please report on time.
Please note that
a two-hour delay is intended to allow HCPS staff additional time to further assess conditions and make a final determination on whether or not to open the school division. We will communicate any additional closings or delays that may be necessary as quickly as possible so you can begin making the necessary arrangements for your student.
We understand this is disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff.
Stay safe and warm,
Hanover County Public Schools
