At the high school level, gifted and advanced students may select from among several program options. 
  • The Maggie L. Walker Governorís School for Government and International Studies is a regional program for gifted students. Admission is based on a competitive application process that begins in the eighth grade.
  • Honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or dual-enrollment courses are part of every Hanover County comprehensive high school program. 
  • Gifted students may apply their sophomore and junior year to participate in four-week residential summer Governorís School Programs are offered in Humanities and Science, Foreign Language, and Visual and Performing Arts.
  • Gifted students may apply to the various Honor Societies. Honor Societies available at Patrick Henry include: Beta, International Thespian Society, Mu Alpha Theta (a math honor society), National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, National Art Honor Society.
  • Gifted students may elect to take a mentorship course. 
  • Gifted students may apply their junior year to take the Emerging Leaders course as a senior, a partnership between Hanover County Public Schools and The University of Richmond.
