Middle School Principal Receives R.E.B. Leadership Award

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Mark Beckett, principal of Chickahominy Middle School (CMS), is the Hanover County Public Schools winner of the 2015-2016 R.E.B. Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership by The Community Foundation.  As a recipient, Beckett will receive a $7,500 cash grant, as well as an additional $7,500 towards a school project.

One principal from each school division in the counties of Hanover, Henrico, and Chesterfield, as well as the City of Richmond, receives the award annually.  It serves to “recognize the principals who go beyond the day-to-day demands of their position to create an exceptional educational environment.”  The school community and the public make the nominations.

“I am privileged and honored to represent the Chickahominy community of staff, students and parents in receiving this award. This recognition should be shared with the entire community. I understand this award recognizes educational leaders that go above and beyond the day-to-day demands of their position to create an exceptional educational environment for students and teachers. I believe each one of us at Chickahominy are committed to this belief each day.  I am proud to be a part of the positive culture and climate that is Chickahominy Middle School,” said Beckett.

“Mark Beckett is an outstanding leader, which is what this prestigious award represents. We celebrate his success and are proud of his accomplishment.  This award also reflects the hard work and dedication of the Chickahominy Middle School staff.  Their combined efforts continue to yield exceptionally high student achievement, which is why we are here in the first place,” said Dr. Michael Gill, Superintendent of Schools.

Beckett plans to use the $7,500 in school project funds to help further increase health and wellness efforts among students through the Physical Education program.

Beckett began his career in education in 1994 as a special education teacher. He has been employed by Hanover County Public Schools as the principal of Chickahominy Middle School for nearly five years.
