Hanover County Public Schools Achieves Full State
ASHLAND, Va. Ė Hanover County Public
Schools (HCPS) is pleased to announce that all schools
have achieved full accreditation by the Virginia
Department of Education (VDOE) based upon results during
the 2015-2016 school year. HCPS is one of the largest
school divisions in the Commonwealth to experience this
level of success at all of its schools.
Students exceeded all of the
Standards of Learning (SOL) benchmarks set by the VDOE
in English, math, history, and science, as well as met
or exceeded the state average on all 29 SOL tests.
Students also earned the highest pass rate in math among
the 15 largest school divisions in the Commonwealth.
Additionally, HCPS far exceeded the graduation benchmark
at all four high schools.
ďIím proud of the efforts of our
students and staff, which has earned us full
accreditation again this year. Our success is also a
direct reflection of the commitment and support of our
parents and community we serve. While we celebrate this
accomplishment, we also recognize that test scores alone
are not indicative of a studentís, teacherís, schoolís,
or divisionís success or value. Rather, by
concentrating on educating the whole child, we will
continue to uphold our tradition of excellence that has
and will continue to define Hanover County Public
Schools,Ē said Dr. Michael B. Gill, superintendent.
