Welcome to the Gandy Reading Resource Page.   The reading specialists for John M. Gandy Elementary School include Leanne Eberly, Christina Saunders, and Rebecca Wynne.  As the reading specialists, our primary goal is to identify students who are experiencing difficulty, determine their areas of need, and provide assistance.  Through a variety of individualized testing and observation, we assist our teachers in identifying students at risk and prepare a specific educational plan designed to meet the particular needs of the individual student.

We furnish an overview of our school's various tests as they relate to our students and our teaching program by summarizing the following: the third grade PALS (a Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening Test), and the third, fourth and fifth grade SOL (Standards of Learning) scores. We work with teachers on an individual basis, as needed.  We model and provide explicit instruction across the curriculum using a variety of reading strategies, including test-taking strategies, within the classroom setting, and provide individual and small group reading instruction to students experiencing difficulty in fluency, word study, comprehension, and writing.

We are always interested in volunteers at Gandy!  If you are interested in working with one of our students, please leave a message for us at 365-4640.
