Primarily, it is our responsibility to help your child get the best possible education.  In addition to learning the academics, this also includes learning career, social and developmental skills.  For example, students will learn how to get along with other children, how to make good decisions, how to manage their feelings, and the importance of accepting responsibility.  Many of these skills are taught at home and it is our intent to supplement the learning from home through classroom lessons and other school-wide programs such as Positive Behavior Support, Good Citizenship and our Student Leadership Program.

We also here to help students who might be having difficulty adjusting to particular situations.  Family changes such as birth of a sibling, moving, illness, death or divorce may affect children at school.  Therefore, we offer individual and group counseling with parental permission to assist children in their adjustment to these types of concerns.  Frequently, the children we work with just need a little extra support through a difficult time.

It is our hope that we will also be of support and assistance to you, the parents.  If you have a particular concern about your child, please feel free to contact us to discuss the matter.  It is important to remember that children benefit the most when parents and school personnel work together as a team.  Please contact us if you have any questions about this information or if we can be of any help to you.   We look forward to seeing you and working with you and your children this year!

Our Mission:  Hanover County School Counselors provide all students educational services, in collaboration with parents, school and the community, that foster
academic, career and social/emotional growth toward lifelong success and effective, responsible citizenship for a diverse and changing world.
