July 15, 2021 Update:

Dear Families,

We hope you are having a great summer. We are writing today with an important update regarding the 2021-22 school year, including our start and end times (bell schedule) that we will use for the upcoming year.

At Tuesday night’s School Board meeting, we presented an update on our reopening plans as we draw closer to the first day of school. Please read this message carefully.

Start and End Times (Bell Schedules)

- Elementary Schools: 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Three schools (Cool Spring Elementary School, Laurel Meadow Elementary School, and Mechanicsville Elementary School) will operate on a shifted schedule of 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. to help ensure our transportation service is as efficient as possible.
- Middle Schools: 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
- High Schools: 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Our middle schools will feature an A/B schedule with four blocks per day and two elective choices, while our high schools will return to an A/B schedule with four blocks per day.

Thank you.

June 19, 2021 Update:

Dear Families,

We hope you are having a great last week of school. As we approach Friday’s deadline to enroll in the Online School for next school year, we wanted to address two questions that have been frequently asked since the School Board approved our Return to Learn plan earlier this month.

Will we require the COVID-19 vaccine for in-person learning next school year?

No. While we have been working with the Chickahominy Health District to provide our students the opportunity to receive the vaccine if they are interested in doing so, we are not requiring it.

Will face masks be required in schools next school year?

Currently, the Governor’s COVID-19 Executive Order states that all students, teachers, staff, and visitors must wear a mask over their nose and mouth while on school property, even if they are fully vaccinated. We have received further guidance from the state that individuals who are fully vaccinated may remove their masks while outside on school property and in settings where students are not present, including the School Board Office, transportation office, and schools during the summer if students are not present.

As has been the case since the start of the pandemic, we will follow all state-required COVID-19 health mitigation measures that are in place at the time, including those related to face masks. As always, we will keep you informed of any changes that we may receive from the state in this regard.

As a reminder, in-person instruction is the default enrollment option for students next school year. Families who prefer this option do not need to do anything further. Families who would like transportation service for their face-to-face student must request service by completing the opt-in form no later than Friday, July 2

If you would like to enroll your student in the Online School, please visit the Online School for 2021-22 School Year webpage. The deadline for enrollment is Friday, June 18.

Thank you.

Original June 9, 2021 Message:

Dear Families, Faculty, and Staff,

We hope you are having a wonderful week. We are writing today to keep you informed on our reopening plans for the 2021-22 school year, including enrollment in the Online School. Please read this message carefully.

At its meeting last night, the School Board approved our plan for next school year, which we shared with you last month. We are proud to say that we will again offer families a choice of in-person instruction or online learning. Here is what you need to know:

- In-Person Instruction: This is the default enrollment option for all students. You do not need to do anything further if this is your choice. We will follow all state-required COVID-19 health mitigation measures that are in place at the time.
- Online Instruction: Families must opt-in if this is your choice. For more information on the Online School, including how to enroll your student, please visit this webpage. Please read all information on this page before making a final decision. The deadline to enroll is Friday, June 18.
- Transportation: We plan to resume normal bus transportation next school year, including restoring normal capacity limits. However, families who would like transportation service for their face-to-face student must request service by completing the opt-in form no later than Friday, July 2. This allows us to plan the most efficient routes possible while not restricting service for any families.

We will continue to work on and refine our reopening plans for the fall with ever-changing state guidance, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work to make the best decisions possible for our students. As always, we will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

Thank you.

Estimados/as Familias, Facultad, y Personal

Gracias.
